2022-2023 Program Structure
Our unique program based in Montgomery County, Maryland is one that promotes leadership development by helping teens identify their own characteristics, personality traits, and strengths to best understand how they can be successful in any area of their choosing.
The eight month prestigious leadership development program encourages youth to build upon their own strengths and also learn how to effectively work with others that have different strengths and talents. A brief outline of each session is as follows:
Orientation and Staying Connected
Session 1: Public Speaking
Session 2: Online Presence
Session 3: Etiquette and Ethics
Session 4: Personality Types
Session 5: Financial Management
Session 6: Diversity and Social Justice
Session 7: Peer Pressure Management and Emotional Regulations
Session 8: Grants and Scholarships
Program Graduation
Prior to the pandemic, sessions were held in Silver Spring, MD on the second Saturday of each month from August to March. Many of our sessions are now held virtually during the same timeframe with a potential option of two to three in person sessions and activities. We will hold interactive video conferencing sessions, and have expanded this wonderful program to students across the United States.
The cost to participate in this program is $150. Since Character First is a non-profit (501c3) organization, this cost is tax deductible.
Upon graduation from the program, each student becomes a Youth Leadership Fellow. Fellows are encouraged to remain active in their communities and with the incoming leadership program participants. Fellows may be eligible for small scholarships upon graduation from high school and acceptance to college.
